Module 4: Medical Equipment & Therapeutic Modalities

As a veterinary technician, intern or newly graduated veterinarian, understanding the use of the equipment available to diagnose and treat patients makes the difference between "good" and "great" vet care. Understand state of the art industry equipment, its use and benefits.

Course Outline

Section 1 - Radiograph Machine Procedures & Safety
The radiograph machine is one of the most important tools an equine veterinarian has. Learn basic procedures and safety protocols for operation and use of this machine.

Section 2 - Ultrasound Procedures & Safety
The Ultrasound Machine is used for diagnosis of soft tissue structures in the horse. This section will review its operation and safety procedures when in use.

Section 3 - Shockwave Procedures & Safety
The Shockwave Machine is used to treat soft tissue injuries in horses. This section will review its operation and safety procedures when in use.

Section 4 - Therapeutic Laser Procedures & Safety
Therapeutic Lasers are used for many reasons, including treating wounds, surface muscle pain, deep muscle pain, inflammation, edema and other ailments in horses. This section will review its operation and safety procedures when in use.

Section 5 - Vibration Plate Procedures & Safety
The Vibration Plate is used as a therapeutic modality to improve circulation and increases the oxygen uptake in muscles, helping alleviate pain and inflammation in soft tissue injuries and accelerating hoof growth. This section will review its operation and safety procedures when in use.

Section 6 - Cold Salt Water Leg Spa Procedures & Safety
The Cold Salt Water Leg Spa is used to reduce inflammation in lower leg injuries and accelerate the body’s natural healing processes. This section will review its operation and safety procedures when in use.

Section 7 - Water Treadmill Procedures & Safety
The Water Treadmill increases stride, develops muscles, increases flexibility, and promotes core strength among other things. This section will review its operation and safety procedures when in use.

Section 8 - Equine Swimming Pool Procedures & Safety
The Equine Swimming Pool provides aerobic exercise without stress on the tendons, ligaments and muscles of the leg that traditional, weight-bearing on-the-ground exercises create. This section will review its operation and safety procedures when in use.

Section 9 - Equine Transpirator Procedures & Safety
The Transiprator is is used to improve equine performance by preventing airway heat and water loss, and by depositing a thin film of condensation on the walls of the respiratory tract. This section will review its operation and safety procedures when in use.

Section 10 - Electromagnetic Pulse Therapy Procedures & Safety
Electromagnetic Pulse Thermal, or PEMF, is use to restore missing electrical charges to damaged cells, allowing cells to re-attain their natural electrical charge which aids in function and healing in the body. This section will review its operation and safety procedures when in use.
**This course is required for all students taking the full Rullan University program. Students may not test out of this module.
